Sometimes, you have to go outside your own pool of resources to find something interesting. RotoExperts is hosting its Fight for Your Write! fantasy baseball article contest. Anyone is open to submit his best fantasy baseball article to the competition. The winner will have his article published plus receive a nice trove of prizes, including a copy of Major League Baseball 2K10, an Evan Longoria Fathead Jr., and a Buffalo Wild Wings hooded sweatshirt.
There are millions of fantasy baseball players out there and at least half of them think they can give better fantasy advice than most of the experts out there. That is where they are wrong. Knowing which players to recommend and writing good fantasy experts are two very different things. In to compete in this contest, not only will the winner have to make some solid fantasy advice, the article will have to be well-written, and most importantly, make convincing arguments. But, to win the contest, the article will probably actually have to be enjoyable and entertaining.
If you think you have the writing chops to win RotoExpert’s Fight of Your Write! challenge and enter. Entries are due by 5pm on April 2nd.
Good luck!

The Ultimate Sleeper

In todays hi-tech world of fantasy sports, with a countless number of websites dedicated to providing all the latest statistical information, news, and player insight that anyone could ever need to manage their team, it’s very rare that we come across a true sleeper. This season, names like Kyle Blanks, Billy Butler, Ben Sheets, Elvis Andrus, and countless others are being tossed around as possible sleeper candidates. The problem with guys like these is that they are not true sleepers. This is because, unless you’ve been living on Mars the last few years, you know who these guys are and know exactly what they’re capable of.
A true sleeper in todays game needs to be somebody who is completely flying under the radar. Somebody you won’t find at the top of any major prospect lists. Somebody who is available in 95% of your leagues. A hidden gem who could make your team significantly better and allow you to spend the rest of the season gloating to your league-mates about your miraculous scouting job.
The problem with finding players like this is that the window of opportunity is so small. If you’re right about a player who fits this mold, it surely won’t be long until the rest of the fantasy world is adding him as fast as Rajai Davis rounds the bases.
Today I’m going to tell you about a true sleeper. Actually, I’m going to tell you about the Ultimate Sleeper. Somebody who fits all the qualifications, who you’ve probably even heard of. Today I’m going to tell you about Sean Rodriguez.
If you’re like me and monitor spring training stats like it’s the last week of the season, then you’re well aware of what the young Rays’ prospect has done this spring. You know that he’s tied for the major league lead with six homers. You know he’s batting .420 with a .900 slugging percentage. You know about his 16 runs scored and 15 RBI. You also know that picking up players based solely on exceptional springs can lead to many long nights, a flop in the standings, and an unwanted number of grey hairs. But there are a few things you probably don’t know about this Ultimate Sleeper.
Like, for instance, the fact that over the course of his last 174 AAA games, Rodriguez has blasted 51 homers, scored 155 runs, and drove in 150 more.
Or maybe you’re unaware of the fact he was a third-round draft selection who still has room to add size and power to his 6’0″, 190 lb. frame.
Or that he’s only 25 years-old.
Or — and this is a big one — that Joe Maddon has penciled Rodriguez in to be the opening day starter at second base for a stacked Tampa Bay Lineup.
Or that he’ll also serve as the Rays’ primary utility man and could potentially end up with SS, 3b, 2b, LF, CF, and RF eligibility.
Oh, and did I mention he’ll play second base and has hit 51 homers in his last 174 minor league games?
Yes, this is all true and I assure you you’re not dreaming. There is a player, who will gain second base eligibility, who will have every opportunity to hit the 30-40 homers he’s capable of, who is available in 95% of all leagues right now.
But as I said before, the window of opportunity in today’s fantasy world is small. If you haven’t already done so, hurry now, drop the scraps at the end of your bench and add somebody with a legitimate upside. Add Sean Rodriguez and be ready to brag to your friends about how you were one of the first to add — The Ultimate Sleeper.
